Engineering is offered as an option subject at Senior Cycle. It is offered at both Higher and Ordinary Level.
The students complete a project as part of their coursework, a written examination and a practical examination.
Engineering is useful for the following careers: electronic and mechanical engineering, architecture, mechanic, panel beater, welder, plumber, aircraft technician, army/air corps and industrial design.
At Higher Level, the practical work is worth 50% - 300 marks (project is worth 150 marks, the practical exam is worth 150 marks) and the written paper is worth 50% - 300 marks.
At Ordinary Level,the practical work is worth 60% - 300 marks (project is worth 150 marks, the practical exam is worth 150 marks) and the written paper is worth 40% - 200 marks.

For the Junior Certificate, the students complete a project as part of their coursework and a written examination. There is a practical examination is completed at Higher Level only.
At Higher Level, the project is worth 37.5%, the written paper is worth 25% and the practical exam is worth 37.5%.
At Ordinary Level, the project is worth 75% and the written examination is worth 25%.
